IPOH: Eight students from the prestigious Malay College Kuala Kangsar including two Fifth Formers, who allegedly threatened a warden with parangs, have been transferred to a non-residential school.
Perak Education Department director Datuk Adnan Ibrahim said the transfer had the agreement of their parents and was made because of “academic and disciplinary problems.”
He clarified that the two form five students had not assaulted the warden on Aug 18 with parangs and Rambo knives as earlier reported in Malay daily.
Adnan said that according to a letter he received from the principal Alimuddin Mohd Dom the two students armed with parangs usually used by scouts, had only challenged and threatened the warden
He said what had happened was that warden had come across the two students who were wandering near the Form Two dormitory while patrolling the compound at 2.30am.
When confronted, the students told the warden they were fetching the wallets and were ordered to return to their dormitory.
The warden then used his cane to tap their butt two or three times to get them to move on.
“When they returned to their dormitory, they took to parangs and together with some of their friend, confronted the warden and began shouting and the latter.
“Concerned for the safety of the other students, the college authorities called in the police to help control the situation and advise the students,” said Adnan.
He said the other six students who were also transferred were not involved in the incident and no police report was lodged on the matter.
Adnan said that before this, he had sent a directive to all residential schools to patrol their compounds.
He said he supported the action taken by the college to curb further incidents of indiscipline.
Commenting on the expulsion of 20 Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman students, who were members of the “high council” gangster group, Adnan said they were still investigating whether there had been “outside factors” spreading violence or influencing the activities of these students. thorrinre
